The advent of e-commerce has made it so much easier to shop within the comfort of our own homes. In fact, in the past couple of years, online shopping has grown by leaps and bounds. According to a survey conducted by public relations firm Walker Sands, more than half or 62 percent of American shoppers with Internet access went online in 2013 to purchase goods and services. Given the way things are going, this figure is only bound to increase in the coming years.
While online retail is currently dominated by behemoths, such as Amazon, there is a growing league of entrepreneurs who are bringing their business online. There is obviously so much space for everyone in this burgeoning field, so the future looks good in that regard.
With the volume of retail transactions on the Web, as well as the variety of goods and services on offer, what products make the most money online today?
Apparently, the most sought-after goods online are consumer electronics. This doesn’t come as a surprise, given the speed with which technology changes and the rate at which current models of gadgets are replaced with new ones. Among the products under this category are mobile phones, tablet computers, laptops, digital cameras, television sets, ebook readers, and audio speakers.
Coming next to electronic devices are books. While the sale of printed copies remains robust, the availability of more portable and cost-efficient ebooks has resulted in the growth of the ebook business. As opposed to the more traditional printed matter, ebooks don’t take up shelf space, are economical, and are stored in the cloud, which means they can be accessed anywhere.
Other products that online shoppers are on the constant lookout for are clothing pieces, household goods, and office supplies.
